Newcastle United full-back DeAndre Yedlin looked set to be sidelined for months, but his injury is not as bad as first feared.

Newcastle United have had a fortunate escape, with DeAndre Yedlin’s injury turning out not to be serious.
Yedlin damaged his knee against Tottenham Hotspur after stretching to try and cross the ball, and it looked like a potentially bad injury.
Yedlin hobbled off in the contest, but the American’s absence is set to be a matter of weeks rather than months.
And Newcastle can consider themselves fortunate that the lightening quick defender is not sidelined for long.
Newcastle left themselves short at full-back this summer, even though Rafael Benitez wanted more options in the position.

Benitez was not backed to get the full-back he wanted by Mike Ashley, and that decision almost came back to haunt Newcastle.
If Yedlin was out for the long-term, Javier Manquillo would have been forced to play at right-back, and if they had suffered another injury after that then their options would have been seriously short.
Newcastle don’t have enough cover at full-back now, and they need to hope that Yedlin has no more injury scares for the rest of the season, otherwise that could spell disaster for them.
