Newcastle United are expected to sign West Ham United talent Harrison Ashby in January rather than at the end fo the season.

The Magpies have a top quality right back in Kieran Trippier.

Trippier really kickstarted this Newcastle project in January and many have followed him to St. James’ Park as a result of his move.

Trippier is 32 now though and Newcastle will ultimately need to think about their right back of the future.

It isn’t going to be Emil Krafth, it isn’t going to be Javi Manquillo, so Newcastle need to go into the market for one.

Newcastle United are expected to sign Harrison Ashby

The main name in the mix is West Ham United talent Harrison Ashby.

Newcastle were keen on signing Ashby on deadline day and were in ‘advanced talks’ according to The Guardian but no deal was done.

The rumours have returned of late with The Mirror (30/11, p51) claiming that Ashby is ‘frustrated’ at West Ham and Newcastle are preparing a January move.

Ashby is out of contract at the end of the season and seemingly isn’t agreeing to a new deal.

With just two first-team appearances this season, Ashby now appears ready to leave the London Stadium.

90Min now claim that West Ham now appear to have given up hope of keeping Ashby.

It’s suggested that a move to St James’ Park is now likely to happen after all and it will come in January rather than the end of the season.

Newcastle would only need to pay a ‘nominal fee’ to bring Ashby to the North East a few months later than hoped.

Ashby, 21, has represented Scotland at youth level but has only managed one Premier League appearance for West Ham.

With Leeds United interested too according to The Sun, Newcastle will be delighted to seemingly be on the verge of securing Ashby.
