Newcastle United want Gonzalo Plata and will be keeping close tabs on the Ecuador winger prepares to feature at the World Cup.
The showpiece event in Qatar is set to begin this afternoon and the first game sees host nation Qatar take on Ecuador.
Qatar would love to get off to a great start but Ecuador have some quality players in their side.
Brighton and Hove Albion trio Moises Caicedo, Pervis Estupinan and Jeremy Sarmiento will be in action and one of their teammates could end up in the Premier League too.

Newcastle United want Gonzalo Plata
Transfer insider Dean Jones now claims that Newcastle United have a real interest in signing Real Valladolid winger Gonzalo Plata.
Jones has told Give Me Sport that Newcastle rate Plata highly and they may well be watching him in action at the World Cup.
Plata is set to start for Ecuador and Jones picked him out as a player who has the potential to be a ‘game-changer’.
Jones added that Plata has ‘pace to burn’ and can really bamboozle defenders at the World Cup.
Plata, 22, emerged with Independiente del Valle before joining Sporting Clubs de Portugal in 2019.
Sporting allowed Plata to go out on loan to Real Valladolid in 2021 and that move became permanent over the summer.
Newcastle have been linked with right-sided, left-footed winger of late with Moussa Diaby touted constantly.
Plata could now be another option though and would likely come much cheaper than the Bayer Leverkusen star.
Newcastle’s sporting director Dan Ashworth snapped up both Caicedo and Sarmiento during his time at Brighton and could now move in for Plata.
Bolavip reported in June that Leeds were keen on signing Plata if Valladolid didn’t sign him permanently, viewing him as a potential replacement for Raphinha according to O Jogo.
That didn’t happen though and Newcastle may now be positioning themselves to lure Plata to the Premier League after all.
