Newcastle United want Goncalo Ramos and are going in with a big offer amid fears that Leeds United and others could make their move.
The Magpies have spent most of the window chasing attacking additions but have been left very frustrated.
Whether it’s a winger or striker, Newcastle need to add quality in the final third before the transfer window shuts.
Interest in the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko and Sekou Mara suggests that Newcastle want a talented young attacker to complement Chris Wood and Callum Wilson.
The latest attacker to fit that bill is Benfica star Ramos, with Newcastle seemingly favourites to sign him.
Newcastle United want Goncalo Ramos
Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias report that Newcastle are preparing their offer for Ramos and it’s actually higher than expected.
It’s stated that Newcastle are planning to offer around €40million (£33.5million) for Ramos as they are anticipating interest from elsewhere.
Newcastle are thinking that Everton, Leeds United, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers will make moves for Ramos too, so Newcastle are trying to tempt Benfica into a quick deal.
Pedro Sepulveda reported last week that Newcastle are ready to offer £25million for Ramos, the absolute lowest fee Benfica would consider.
Yet it now seems that Newcastle will go even higher in an effort to beat the competition to his signature.
Ramos hit eight goals and four assists last season as he emerged as a real talent from the Benfica setup.
Ramos has even hit a hat-trick already this season, helping Benfica smashed Midtjylland in the Champions League qualifiers.
The 21-year-old looks to be a huge talent and that’s what Newcastle want in their attacking setup for the years to come.
Ramos can play as a striker or number 10, which may appeal to Eddie Howe, and Newcastle may hope that this latest proposal is enough to fend off the likes of Everton and Leeds in this race.
