Newcastle United want Goncalo Inacio but the Sporting defender instead appears to be closing in on a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Newcastle are being linked with a number of players as they prepare for their most exciting summer transfer window in some time.

PIF’s investment means Newcastle can go a little bigger with their targets than in previous years.

Eddie Howe will be looking to splash the clash but it sounds like defender Inacio won’t be heading to St James’ Park.

Newcastle United want Goncalo Inacio

Newcastle’s interest in Sporting defender Inacio goes back to January as they allegedly had a late £24million bid rejected for the defender.

A Bola added in April that Newcastle hadn’t given up on Inacio and were still scouting him ahead of a possible move.

Yet whilst Newcastle have been heavily interested in Inacio, it looks like he will instead be heading to another Premier League club.

The Mirror report that Wolves are closing in on a deal to bring Inacio to Molineux.

It’s suggested that Wolves and Sporting will meet this week for talks over a deal for the defender.

Wolves have also been chasing Sporting midfielder Joao Palhinha so there could be a double deal in the offing.

Wolves will allegedly have to pay around £30million for Inacio and a deal is being targeted after the departure of Romain Saiss.

Saiss is leaving this summer and it’s no great surprise that Wolves are now going for another left-footed centre back in Inacio.

Inacio certainly makes sense as a replacement for Saiss so long as Max Kilman stays on the right side despite also being left-footed.

Inacio, 20, looks to have a huge future ahead of him and it’s no shock to see another Portuguese talent being linked with Wolves.

Newcastle may be a little disappointed but it looks like Wolves are far down the line with bringing Inacio and Palhinha to England.
