Newcastle United want Goncalo Guedes but it may now be too late for them to hijack the Valencia star’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Magpies opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over newly-promoted Nottingham Forest.
That’s a great start for Eddie Howe but the search for new signings continues, with another winger still wanted at St James’ Park.
Newcastle have wanted another wide man to work in tandem with Allan Saint-Maximin, but Moussa Diaby and Jack Harrison have proven too expensive.
Other targets will be on the radar but it looks like another one may well slip through the Newcastle net.
Newcastle United want Goncalo Guedes
The Northern Echo report that Newcastle’s recruitment staff have been monitoring the situation of Valencia winger Goncalo Guedes.
However, it’s noted that Wolverhampton Wanderers are so far advanced with a move for Guedes that it may be too late for Newcastle to hijack the deal.
Fabrizio Romano has reported Valencia boss Gennaro Gattuso as saying that a ‘huge’ offer has been made for Guedes from a Premier League club.
Guedes was therefore left out of the friendly win over Atalanta on Saturday as he looks to complete his move.
The Express and Star now report that Wolves will be paying £27.5million to sign Guedes and are leading the race for his signature.

Tuttomercatoweb’s Gianluigi Longari has though claimed that Newcastle have held ‘direct talks’ with Valencia over a deal for Guedes.
Newcastle seemingly do have a firm interest in Guedes but it looks more likely that he will be heading to Molineux rather than Tyneside.
The 25-year-old impressed for Valencia last season, bagging 13 goals and six assists whilst playing all across the front line.
Guedes only played four times as a right winger last season though, and that seems to be the area Newcastle are looking to strengthen.
Formerly of Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica, Guedes would be a quality addition to a Wolves front line that really needs bolstering – and his seemingly imminent move to the Midlands means Newcastle will need to look elsewhere.
