Newcastle United stopper Tim Krul is set to miss the entire season with injury.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has confirmed that he is now off crutches, as he makes good progress in his recovery from injury.

The Dutch goalkeeper has been out since October, when he picked up a cruciate ligament injury while representing his country.

Krul is set to miss the rest of the campaign due to the severity of his problem, but he confirmed that his injury was healing nicely this morning.

In Krul’s absence, Newcastle were expected to struggle in the goalkeeping department.

The 27-year-old has been one of the Magpies’ most reliable performers over recent seasons, and even manager Steve McClaren suggested that his absence could cost the team 20 points to Sky Sports.

However, since Krul has been ruled out Rob Elliot has come into the side and excelled.

Elliot has looked fully assured in between the sticks for McClaren’s men, and ensured that Krul’s absence has not had as negative an impact as first feared.
