Newcastle United are interested in signing Rennes striker Gaetan Laborde, but face a battle with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

That’s according to French news outlet Homme du Match, who claim that Laborde finds himself a wanted him ahead of the January transfer window.

The report describes Laborde as being ‘breathtaking’ since joining Rennes from Montpellier over the summer.

Laborde, 27, has hit 11 goals in his first 17 games for Rennes having completed a late move in August.

Formerly of Bordeaux, Laborde is no stranger to English rumours.

West Ham United have wanted Laborde for a long time. They were planning a big back in August, but it goes back further than that.

West Ham even made a loan bid for Laborde in January, but Montpellier said no.

Laborde may have joined another French club in Rennes, but he remains in the eye of Premier League clubs.

Newcastle aren’t alone in the race for Laborde, as Wolves are also thought to be interest.

Newcastle need to find goalscorers to stay in the Premier League, and with their new cash behind them, a big January bid for Laborde could arrive.
