Newcastle United want to sign Gabri Veiga and are allegedly willing to play the Celta Vigo midfielder’s release clause this summer.

That’s according to Spanish newspaper AS, who claim that Newcastle are readying their move for Veiga.

It’s stated that Newcastle are willing to pay the €40million (£35million) release clause in Veiga’s contract.

The report also claims that the Magpies are willing to give Veiga a huge deal worth around €5million-a-year.

That works out to around £85,000-a-week, which would be a staggering salary for the Celta youngster.

Newcastle target Gabri Veiga is on fire

If this report is true, Newcastle clearly believe that Veiga is worth major investment right now and who can blame them?

Veiga’s goal against Espanoyl on Saturday means he has now racked up nine goals and three assists from midfield this season.

The 20-year-old has been La Liga’s breakout star this season and is earning a reputation as a goalscoring midfielder.

Newcastle are looking for more quality midfielders this summer and the idea of Veiga joining Bruno Guimaraes is hugely exciting.

Veiga’s displays have been hailed as ‘spectacular’ by Spain Under-21 boss Santi Denia, and there is a real battle for his signature.

Magpies face Veiga battle

The list of clubs interested in signing Veiga this summer seems to be growing by the week.

AS claimed in February that Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle had all been scouting Veiga.

90Min added just last week that Brighton, Brentford, Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, Napoli, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are all interested in Veiga.

That’s an astonishing list of clubs and Celta may well be inundated with offers for their young midfielder this summer.

Newcastle may well need to pull out all the stops to win this race, but these new reports are pretty encouraging.
