Newcastle United now look set to appoint Paulo Fonseca as their manager – and he will be a earning even more than if he had become Tottenham Hotspur boss.

The Telegraph are reporting that Fonseca looks set to become Newcastle boss, replacing Steve Bruce following his departure earlier this week.

Fabrizio Romano adds that Fonseca is ready to take the Newcastle job as he wants a Premier League chance.

It’s suggested that Fonseca has really impressed Amanda Staveley during talks with Newcastle.

The Portuguese boss has been out of work since leaving Roma at the end of last season.

Fonseca missed out on the Tottenham job over the summer – but now looks set to earn even more money.

Fonseca’s Newcastle salary would eclipse Tottenham offer

Tottenham were chasing Fonseca as a replacement for Jose Mourinho, but they performed a stunning U-turn and scrapped the move.

Calciomercato reported in June that Fonseca was offered a two-year deal with a salary between €4million and €5million.

That’s around £3.4million to £4.2million, but Fonseca is now set to earn even more if he becomes Newcastle boss.

The Telegraph claim that Newcastle are ready to give Fonseca a £6million-a-year contract at St James’ Park.

That’s even more money in his pay packet as well as more spending power with this Newcastle project in the long term.

Sure, Fonseca will have to keep Newcastle in the Premier League, but missing out on the Tottenham job could end up working well for him.
