Florian Thauvin was not exactly a hit at Newcastle United. The Frenchman played just 420 minutes of football for Newcastle United since joining the club in the summer of 2015, in a deal reported by the Daily Mail to be worth around £12 million plus a loan deal for Remy Cabella.

With that in mind he was sent back out on loan to Marseille, with a permanent deal now looking like being in the pipeline.

He has now been in great form for Marseille and the Newcastle loanee is hoping of getting a call-up to the French national team.

The French press has been calling on Thauvin to get a chance, after his recent good form for Marseille.

He is quoted by Club Call as having this to say about a potential call-up from Didier Deschamps:

“It’s a dream, and I work for that. I would like to have the possibility to go there one day. I know it’s difficult and there are a lot of people in contention.

“I’ll have to do a lot every week to go there. I work and I wait. I’m patient.”

The 24-year-old has represented France at every level up to under-21 but is yet to earn his first cap for the national team.

He would undoubtedly love to play for Les Bleus but Newcastle fans will undoubtedly be shocked to see him playing for one of the biggest national teams in the world.

They may go on to rue not giving Thauvin more of a chance at St James’ Park.
