Tom Heardman scored four for Newcastle United’s U-23 on Wednesday.

By virtue of the fact that Joselu has scored twice in 13 Premier League games for Newcastle United this season, it’s no surprise that fans of the Tyneside club want him dropped.
But the Spanish striker could justifiably be upset to hear who the Newcastle fans want him dropped for: Tom Heardman.
The 22-year-old, yet to make his first-team debut for the club, enhanced his reputation within the Magpies’ ranks on Wednesday by scoring four goals in a 6-3 win for the Under-23 side over Swansea City’s equivalent.

Goals haven’t been abundant for Rafael Benitez’s side this season and their joint top goalscorers are centre-backs Ciaran Clark and Jamal Lascelles, who have two along with Joselu.
Strikers Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic have one each and fans of the St James’s Park club don’t see anything wrong with giving Heardman a chance over Joselu.

It’s entirely unlikely that he will replace Joselu – at least for the next game, as Newcastle gear up for a trip to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.
But they are right in saying that the former Stoke man, a £5 million summer signing, isn’t good enough.
He could, and probably should, have a lot more than two Premier League goals this season, but a series of profligate displays have dogged him.
