But is a move for a Frenchman 10 years younger a much better solution?
Celtic forward Moussa Dembele is a player who is available for transfer at the right price, with the Daily Record confirming his desire to quit the club this summer.
Newcastle fans have over the past 24 hours been discussing the possibility of making a move for Dembele.
Dembele has scored more than 40 goals for Celtic since signing from Fulham in 2016 and has attracted interest from several top sides across Europe.
This season he has been hampered by hamstring injuries and this has seen some of the elite clubs hold back from paying up.
Newcastle should reserve the same concerns, but also acknowledge that this could be their one chance to sign the Frenchman, as a strong end to the season for him would see competition increase in the summer.

Dembele is a decade younger than Gameiro meaning his best years are ahead of him, and from a business perspective it makes sense too as the player has resale value.
He is France under-21 international and playing under Rafa Benitez he could realise his dream of winning a senior cap.
