Newcastle United fans on Twitter have questioned why Rafael Benitez isn’t going for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

The 28-year-old is heavily linked with a move away from Anfield this month and a couple of Spanish and Italian sides are rumoured to be interested.

Back in December, bookmakers Bet Victor had priced Newcastle as 3/1 favourites to sign the England international, though Benitez’s side are now 25/1 outsiders to get a deal done this month.

Signing a left-back is fair enough but it could all be for nothing if Newcastle are relegated which, again, seems likely at the moment.

United are only a point above the danger zone and they need a prolific marksman to come in and stave off the threat of relegation.
