Newcastle fans upset with perceived double standard over Everton striker.

Newcastle United fans have called for the FA to take action over an ‘elbow’ from Wayne Rooney during Everton’s win at St James’ Park.

Rooney scored the winning goal against Newcastle in a 1-0 victory, his 15th career goal against the club.

But what really angered Newcastle fans was a coming together between Rooney and midfielder Matt Ritchie, with the Toon ace seemingly caught in the face by a clumsy challenge from the Everton forward, which was not called a foul by the referee.

Newcastle instead were the ones who had a player sent off, with midfielder Jonjo Shelvey dismissed for a wild challenge of his own.

Shelvey’s red card was a deserved one, but Newcastle supporters were still frustrated to see Wayne Rooney escape unpunished and feel the FA should take retrospective action against England’s all-time leading goalscorer.

No action has at this stage been taken by the FA, and it does not appear to be on their agenda.

If it were, it would be terrible timing for Rooney to pick up a ban as he has been in excellent form in recent weeks and now has nine goals this season for the Toffees.
