Perez was the first Newcastle player to react on Twitter to Benitez’s departure, suggesting that he owed the Spaniard a big thank you.
And even Newcastle fans admit that they cannot blame Perez if he leaves St. James’ Park now.
The striker has also previously refused to commit his future to Newcastle, and Benitez’s departure could well be bad news for the Magpies’ hopes of keeping him.
Newcastle could now face a mass exodus, with the future of many of their first-team players in extreme doubt.
