Sunderland have signed free agent Joleon Lescott.
Sunderland yesterday announced the signing of Joleon Lescott and the arrival of the centre-back has been met with more trepidation than fanfare.
Lescott was relegated at Aston Villa last season and fell out majorly with supporters.
After being let go by the club in the summer he signed with AEK Athens, only to be released after just six months.
Now he has a chance for redemption with Sunderland, with manager David Moyes showing his desperation by bringing in the free agent, the club confirmed.

Lescott has a lot to prove, starting with his fitness. He will be only too well aware that another spell like his sorry tenure with Aston Villa could be the end for him at Premier League level.
The veteran needs to prove he has the passion to succeed, rather than being driven simply by another pay day.
Lescott’s signing was greeted with plenty of hilarity by fans of rivals Newcastle United, for who everything is going pretty well right now.

After the heartbreak of being relegated last season while the Black Cats survived, Newcastle are sitting pretty in the Championship automatic promotion spots, and have reloaded their squad, ready for a renewed push as a Premier League force with Rafa Benitez at the helm.
Sunderland by contrast are looking unlikely to be in the top flight next season at this rate, and David Moyes is over estimating Lescott if he feels he is going to change their fortunes.
