The Magpies only paid £3 million for Schar (Guardian), but his value has massively increased during his time on Tyneside.
With Newcastle having already cashed in on Ayoze Perez, there are now concerns about many of their key players’ futures.
And Newcastle fans are appealing to Schar, who is on a £40,000-a-week contract (Spotrac), to stick around, even though Benitez has departed.
Newcastle could be in for a difficult season, as they still have not found Benitez’s replacement.
Newcastle have begun pre-season training, but Ben Dawson and Neil Redfearn remain in temporary charge for the time being.
