Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle is yet to make an appearance under Steve Bruce.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce during the Premier League match between Norwich City and Newcastle United at Carrow Road on August 17, 2019 in Norwich, United Kingdom.

Newcastle United fans think that Steve Bruce is already getting desperate, after pining his hopes on Dwight Gayle.

Gayle has been out since the start of the season with injury, but Bruce is hoping for him to come back soon.

“I hope he can get fit again,” Bruce said to the Chronicle.

“When I analysed the squad I know he’s capable of scoring a goal.

“If you are a Championship manager you’d take Dwight Gayle because he’s the best striker in the Championship.

“He must be able to contribute to the Premier League too.”

Newcastle supporters think that Bruce is getting desperate already though, after the comments.

Gayle has rarely shown that he has what it takes to score prolifically at the top level.

And Newcastle fans are far from certain that Gayle will make the impact that Bruce is hoping for.

If Gayle can come back and hit the ground running for Newcastle it would be a major boost.

Newcastle have scored just one goal in their first two matches, and have looked toothless up-front so far, with new striker Joelinton struggling to make an impact to date.
