Newcastle United fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to give their reaction to the relegation of Sunderland to League One.

Sunderland’s 2-1 defeat to Burton Albion at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon has confirmed their relegation from the Championship.

The Black Cats came down to the second tier of English football from the Premier League at the end of last season.

Newcastle and Sunderland are big rivals in the North East, and fans of the Magpies have mocked the Black Cats for going down to League One.

Newcastle won promotion from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of last season.

The Magpies are currently doing relatively well in the top flight of English football and appear to be safe from relegation.

It must be bitterly disappointing for Sunderland fans, who will hope that the club make some important changes in the summer and sign players who can get them back up from League One at the first time of asking.
