Newcastle United have reportedly seen a number of managers turn them down since Rafael Benitez left.

Newcastle United fans generally appear to have praised Rafael Benitez for ‘putting off’ Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta from taking the vacant post at St. James’ Park.

Both Vieira and Arteta have been strongly linked with Newcastle since Benitez left.

However, The Sun claim that the Spanish manager has been in contact with the pair of potential candidates to tell them not to take the job with the Magpies.

The news would generally be a blow to Newcastle, but there is such frustration around the club at the way it is being run by Mike Ashley, that Magpies supporters are actually backing their former boss.

Losing Benitez is a huge blow to Newcastle’s chances for the upcoming campaign.

Benitez was so popular at St. James’ Park, and built up a resilient squad on a low budget.

Since Benitez has gone Newcastle have already started selling off key players, with Ayoze Perez the first to depart, and fears that Sean Longstaff could leave also rising.

With a number of candidates seemingly not interested in taking the Newcastle job, Steve Bruce has now emerged as the favourite to land the post (Chronicle).
