Newcastle United fans aren’t convinced that manager Rafael Benitez will wind up signing the elusive Premier League-hardened striker that will save them from relegation this season, amid rumours of a fresh name.

According to The Mirror’s Live Transfer Blog (posted January 27, 21:23), Newcastle, who are one point above the danger zone, have taken an interest in out-of-favour Leicester City hitman Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Nigeria international joined the Foxes in a £25 million deal last summer but hasn’t set the world alight from The King Power Stadium, failing to score in any of his nine Premier League appearances.

The former Manchester City man is proving to be something of a cup specialist though and has bagged four goals in his last two games – both FA Cup outings, against Fleetwood Town and Peterborough United.

Iheanacho, 21, has started only two league games since his big-money move to Leicester and speculation has mounted that Newcastle are willing to offer him an escape route to St James’s Park.
