Nicolai Jorgensen was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United this past January.

Some Newcastle United fans on Twitter believe that Rafael Benitez should make another move for Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen this summer, while others have suggested that a big bullet was dodged.

The Denmark international was strongly linked with a move to the Magpies in the winter transfer window and Jorgensen claimed recently he was “annoyed” that a switch to St James’s Park never materialised.

Newcastle had bid £15 million according to The Chronicle – £5 million less than the Dutch club’s asking price – and Benitez explored other options.

Islam Slimani arrived on a half-season loan from Leicester City, but the Algeria striker, whose loan fee cost £1.5 million, hasn’t yet played due to injury.

And some Newcastle fans believe that taking another run at Jorgensen in the summer makes sense.

The 27-year-old has only scored one goal from 12 games in all competitions so far this calendar year and perhaps Benitez was right not to be held ransom over the price-tag.

Newcastle needed and still do need a top-drawer striker, but Jorgensen, who has eight goals in 22 Eredivisie starts this season, might not be the answer.
