But it was a difficult start to life at St James’s Park for the Senegal international and Newcastle fans are hoping that he kicks on from here.
Diame, who also got a fine assist for Gayle’s first-half opener, is yet to open his account in the Championship in the goalscoring stakes, and that is certainly an area to improve on.
