Newcastle United picked up a vital win on Saturday afternoon by beating Huddersfield Town 2-0 at St James’ Park.

The Magpies went into the game after a near two week break, and were in fine form against a beleaguered Huddersfield side.

Tommy Smith was given a straight red card for the Terriers for a rash foul on Miguel Almiron, and Jonas Lossl was keeping Newcastle at bay with seven first half saves.

However, it didn’t take Newcastle long to make the breakthrough in the second half with Salomon Rondon opening the scoring on 47 minutes.

Just five minutes later, Newcastle put the game away with Ayoze Perez firing home the second from Rondon’s flick on.

Newcastle came close to a third on a number of occasions, with Kenedy and Sean Longstaff both hitting the woodwork for Rafael Benitez’s side.

Another player to hit the frame was playmaker Almiron, who was making his home debut for Newcastle following a club-record move from Atlanta United on deadline day.

The Paraguayan was outstanding through, creating six chances whilst having three shots on target, with fans gutted to see his first half lob over Lossl hit the post.

Fans have taken to Twitter to hail Almiron’s display, hailing him as the best player on the pitch and a joy to watch, with others calling him ‘unreal’ and admitting he may be Newcastle’s most exciting player since David Ginola.
