Newcastle United’s takeover still hasn’t materialised, but that hasn’t stopped them from being linked with a host of new signings.
The Saudi-led consortium pursuing a deal have yet to finalise a deal, but they seemingly have a transfer target in mind; Chelsea left back Marcos Alonso.
According to The Mirror (14/06, p72), Newcastle’s potential owners have communicated their interest in Alonso in the hope of signing the Spaniard.
Chelsea want to sign Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell this summer, and would seemingly be willing to part with Alonso at the right price.
Left back has been a tricky spot for Newcastle in recent times. Alonso, who has hit four goals and two assists in 11 Premier League appearances this season, could solve those issues.
Newcastle have three ex-Sunderland full backs on their books right now in DeAndre Yedlin, Javi Manquillo and Danny Rose, but Alonso is a slightly different case.

The 29-year-old was booed by Newcastle fans earlier this season due to his Sunderland history, and then mocked them on Twitter after he scored the winning goal against the Magpies.
Unsurprisingly, Newcastle fans haven’t forgotten about that, suggesting that he is ‘unwelcome’ at St James’ Park and shouldn’t be signed this summer, with some really not keen on the idea at all.
