Newcastle United need to get moving quickly in the transfer market, with new boss Steve Bruce needing a whole host of new faces.

The Magpies have yet to make a single signing this summer having spent so long attempting to keep Rafael Benitez, and his exit left them scrambling.

Bruce must now get Newcastle moving in the transfer market, and the Magpies are starting to be linked with players again, with Joelinton seemingly close to joining.

Calciomercato now report that Newcastle are interested in signing Roma midfielder Maxime Gonalons, with the Frenchman set to leave this summer.

Gonalons, 30, failed to really establish himself at Roma following a 2017 move from Lyon, and also struggled for playing time at Sevilla last season.

The anchor man has become a little injury prone, but it’s claimed that Newcastle like him as cheap midfield depth following the departure of Mohamed Diame.

Gonalons was a long-term target for ex-boss Benitez, with agent Frederic Guerra telling Napoli Online that he wanted Gonalons at Napoli and then at Newcastle in 2017.

Newcastle fans have now taken to Twitter to react, believing that the club are going back in time by making a move for Gonalons, as he’s simply too old now and should have been signed a long time ago if it was going to happen.
