Newcastle United beat Southampton 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle United boosted their survival hopes as they beat Southampton 3-0 at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Magpies needed a result against one of their rivals in the battle against relegation, and coasted to victory in a superb performance.
The scoring started early for Newcastle, and Jonjo Shelvey’s pass picked out Kenedy, and the Brazilian loanee chested the ball over and around Cedric before finishing into the net.

A torrid Southampton side were 2-0 down before the break, as Ayoze Perez picked out Dwight Gayle, and he squared for Kenedy to tap home from close range.
Rafael Benitez’s side sealed their 3-0 win in the second half, as Shelvey teed up Matt Ritchie to bend home a third, in a vital win for Newcastle and their battle against the drop.
Newcastle now sit five points clear of the relegation zone, and will be hoping to secure their Premier League status before heading into a vital summer transfer window.

Manager Benitez will face decisions on a number of players, including Chelsea loanee Kenedy, who bagged his first goals for Newcastle with his brace against Southampton.
Newcastle fans have largely been impressed with the Brazilian, and have now been calling for the club to break their transfer record to sign him permanently in a deal worth up to £20million.
Some don’t quite see the fuss with Kenedy despite the brace against Southampton, but most hailed the left winger for a superb display and a strong loan spell so far.
