Newcastle United enjoyed a busy Monday, bringing in two new signings to bolster Steve Bruce’s attack.
Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson joined the club at midday, completing a £20million move to St James’ Park.
Wilson was then joined by a familiar face, as Ryan Fraser – his former Bournemouth teammate – signed a five-year deal at Newcastle.
This should provide real quality in the final third, with Fraser, Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin operating behind Wilson.
Some will wonder what this means for Joelinton; the Brazilian striker was signed for £40million last summer, but has now been replaced by Wilson.
Joelinton managed just two Premier League goals last season, and Newcastle allegedly made a very notable and rather surprising decision on Monday.
The Telegraph report that Newcastle will strip Joelinton of the number nine shirt, and give it to Wilson upon his arrival on Tyneside.
One way to look at this is that it could shatter Joelinton’s already strained confidence, but Newcastle fans are looking at this in another way.
Supporters took to Twitter to suggest that this ‘the right move’ is a great step for the striker, claiming that the decision will take pressure off Joelinton and ultimately lead to a more confident player this coming season.
