Newcastle United have been linked with the goalkeeper.

Newcastle United fans are divided over whether Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart would represent a good signing this summer.

The Daily Mail claimed on Saturday that Newcastle had made an enquiry for the 30-year-old England international, who is also courting interest from West Ham United.

The Magpies have loaned out Matz Sels to former club Anderlecht but manager Rafael Benitez still has no fewer than four goalkeepers on his books.

Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow, Tim Krul and Freddie Woodman are still at St James’s Park, but Benitez has been linked with moves for Pepe Reina and Wily Caballero – who has since joined Chelsea – in spite of his existing options.

Hart – who earns £120k-a-week at Eastlands, according to The Mirror – spent last season on loan at Serie A side Torino and it is safe to say that not all Newcastle fans are loving this rumour.

The Sun reported on June 10 that Hart would command a fee of around £18 million. Even if Newcastle agree to paying his huge wages, the transfer fee is another matter entirely and the Spanish manager might elect to shop around – and few would blame him for doing so.
