Jamal Lascelles signed a contract extension with Newcastle United this week.
The in-form defender has put pen to paper on a new deal which could see him stay at Newcastle until 2023.
The 23-year-old has been solid as a rock for the Magpies this season and has netted two goals in seven Premier League games as United sit ninth in the table.
Lascelles has hardly gone under the radar and has courted praise from plenty of pundits including Alan Shearer and Jamie Redknapp.
With the January transfer window set to open in less than three months, it wouldn’t have been a huge surprise if Newcastle were inundated with enquiries about the former Nottingham Forest man but this move might quell the interest for a while.
And fans of the St James’s Park club were understandably delighted with such an announcement.
