Newcastle United are through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after beating League Two side Morecambe on Wednesday evening.

The Magpies travelled over to The Mazuma Stadium to take on Derek Adams’ side, and coasted through with a 7-0 victory.

Joelinton scored a first-half brace, whilst Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy, Isaac Hayden and Jamaal Lascelles also got themselves on the scoresheet, with a late Sam Lavelle own goal sealing the deal.

Newcastle face a trip to giantkillers Newport County in the next round, though the focus will quickly turn to the Premier League clash with Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

Many Newcastle players had great evenings against the fourth-tier side, and no player impressed more than winger Murphy.

Loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday in the second half of last season, the wide man is back and attempting to finally prove that he is good enough for the Premier League.

The 25-year-old showed pace and drive throughout, adding an assist to his goal in a superb performance from the former Norwich City ace.

Fans took to Twitter to hail Murphy, branding him ‘class’ and ‘outstanding’ after such a confident display.

Others think Murphy should now be given another chance in the Premier League, especially with Allan Saint-Maximin currently injured.
