West Bromwich Albion are having some difficulty getting Dwight Gayle to leave Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United side.

Newcastle United fans have hammered Dwight Gayle for his performance in their latest friendly, amid rumours that he could join West Bromwich Albion.

West Brom have been tracking Gayle all summer, but it seems that he could be set to stay with Rafael Benitez’s side.

Gayle doesn’t want to leave Newcastle and was included in their starting line-up for their latest pre-season outing.

However, Newcastle were beaten 4-0 by Braga in a worrying display.

And many Newcastle fans have started to suggest that they should force the striker to join West Brom.

It’s as clear as day we need a striker. Gayle is a good lad, works hard and was brilliant in helping us get out of the championship but at the highest level he’s not good enough. He lacks the intelligence to make the most of his attributes. Sadly it is time for him to move #nufc

West Brom would likely welcome Gayle with open arms, as his scoring record at Championship level is so prolific.

It is in the Premier League where Gayle has struggled, and his performance for Newcastle last night has done little to ease the doubts over him starting the season as the Magpies’ leading striker.
