Leeds defender Charlie Taylor had been linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Charlie Taylor put in a battling performance as Leeds United were beaten at home by league leaders Newcastle United on Sunday.

His display is unlikely to have flown under the radar of the Toon, who The Journal reported are considering a move to sign him in January.

Last week’s report stated Newcastle have had their eye on Taylor for several months, and are contemplating their options at left-back.

Taylor’s future at Leeds United is in doubt, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Against Newcastle he completed 73 per cent of his passes, made two interceptions and blocked one goal-bound shot.

He was also willing to get forward, although could not develop his attacking urgency into creating any chances for his side.

Taylor has been an integral part of Garry Monk’s Leeds United team so far this season, and the club’s impressive form which has them within a point of the play-offs may yet convince him to stay.

Newcastle appear set for an instant return to the Premier League, five points clear at the top of the Championship, and would be an attractive club to join if Taylor did elect to move on.
