The Dutchman has joined Ajax on loan.
Newcastle’s Tim Krul
Newcastle United confirmed the departure of Tim Krul on a season-long loan to Ajax yesterday, via the club’s official website.
The goalkeeper returns to his native Holland after signing a new one-year deal with the Magpies and it remains unclear whether he has a long-term future on Tyneside.
Matz Sels
Rafael Benitez signed Belgian stopper Matz Sels earlier this summer and has entrusted him with the number one jersey, leaving Krul with little choice but to seek pastures new.
The 28-year old leaves on good terms and is popular with the fans so could yet appear in the famous black and white, particularly if Newcastle earn promotion this season.
Benitez has worked tirelessly during the transfer window to reshape the squad to his own liking and many of the senior players culpable in last year’s disastrous campaign have been moved on.
Newcastle United’s Tim Krul
Krul has some spectacular moments between the sticks for the Magpies but long-term injury issues plagued him and he made just nine appearances last season.
The Dutchman has ensured Newcastle will receive a fee for him, should he depart after his loan spell, by signing a one-year contract extension.
The Toon Army took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the departure of one of the club’s most experienced figures:
