Newcastle United and Sunderland could have two divisions between them next season.
Newcastle United fans have disputed Sunderland boss Chris Coleman’s latest comments at his press conference.
Coleman claimed that Newcastle supporters want Sunderland back in the Premier League, so that they can renew their rivalry.
He said to the Chronicle: “All the proper Newcastle fans I’ve spoken to since I moved here have been fantastic with me. In any industry there’s a small, unsavoury percentage. The ones I’ve spoken to want to see us back up there because they want to play against us.”
But Magpies fans have hit back at the Black Cats boss and suggested that he is completely wide of the mark with his comments.
Newcastle fans on Twitter, certainly, are enjoying Sunderland’s recent demise and are hoping that it is not at an end just yet.
It looks likely that Newcastle will have two divisions between themselves and Sunderland next term.
Rafael Benitez’s side are almost certain to stay in the Premier League this term, as they are now 10 points clear of relegation.
Sunderland, meanwhile, are odds-on to face the drop into League One, with Coleman’s side badly struggling.
Sunderland are currently in 23rd place in the Championship table, and even Coleman has admitted that they will have to win all of their remaining four fixtures to stand a chance of staying in the division.
