Newcastle fans are pleased Ross McCormack won’t be facing them with Fulham this weekend as he nears a move to Aston Villa.
Ross McCormack celebrates
Ross McCormack is on the verge of a move to Aston Villa, with HITC reporting last night a £14 million fee has been agreed.
McCormack is one of the Championship’s most prolific strikers, netting 21 league goals in a struggling Fulham side last season.
His signature will propel Villa to become one of the favourites to win promotion – higher than they were already – alongside current odds on side Newcastle United.
Fulham’s Ross McCormack dejected at full time
For Newcastle, McCormack’s imminent move is a case of impeccable timing, as they are set to face Fulham this Friday night in the Championship’s kick off.
The transfer will not only leave Fulham without their top striker, but with no time to sign a replacement in time for the match at Craven Cottage.
McCormack was linked with a move to Newcastle by The Mail back in June, and while they certainly have the money available after selling Georginio Wijnaldum to Liverpool for £25 million, they have elected not to get involved in the pursuit.
Dwight Gayle celebrates after scoring the second goal for Crystal Palace
They moved for Dwight Gayle instead earlier this summer, and also have Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Adam Armstrong in attack.
Nonetheless, Villa’s move has prompted a mixture of opinion from fans, with some simply glad he won’t be facing them this Friday, to others glad they have passed on him.
Others complimented Villa on the good signing, but there were also those urging Newcastle to hijack the deal.
