Newcastle United sneaked in a late transfer deal before the international deadline, but it didn’t really make many headlines.
Having brought in Mark Gillespie, Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick, Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson to bolster Steve Bruce’s side, the Magpies were done with first-team additions.
Yet they did sign Rodrigo Vilca, a young Peruvian playmaker who had been in superb form for Deportivo Municipal before making his move to England.
The 21-year-old was signed as one for the future, with Newcastle seemingly feeling that he isn’t quite ready for Premier League action yet.
On Monday, Vilca featured for Newcastle’s Under-23’s in a home game against Fulham, playing his part in a 2-1 win for the young Magpies.
Vilca was hailed by local press for his display, as he showed a real desire to create in the final third and be inventive, which isn’t something Newcastle fans see a great deal of under Steve Bruce.

Fans took to Twitter to react to Vilca’s Under-23 debut, suggesting that he looked ‘very good’ and ‘brilliant’.
Others think he will be in the first-team picture soon, just like Ayoze Perez in 2014, with fans pleased that he looks like a ‘baller’ and a ‘handful’.
