Newcastle United are said to be wanting to sign a new goalkeeper this month.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez looks on during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Burnley at Old Trafford on December 26, 2017 in Manchester, England.

A number of Newcastle United fans simply cannot understand why Rafael Benitez is putting so much effort into signing a goalkeeper.

Newcastle have made just one transfer this month, with Kenedy arriving on loan from Chelsea.

The Magpies are still hunting addition, and the Chronicle claim that a striker and a goalkeeper are at the top of Benitez’s wishlist.

While there is a widespread recognition that Newcastle must sign a new forward, the St. James’ Park crowd are less convinced about Benitez’s need for a new stopper.

Newcastle already have Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow competing for the number one spot, while Freddie Woodman is also at the club.

And Newcastle fans have suggested that there are far more urgent needs to address than finding a new goalkeeper this month.

Newcastle are running out of time to get additions done, but there are expected to be active before the end of the month.

The Magpies are currently struggling against the drop in the Premier League, with Newcastle sat in 15th place in the top flight table as things stand.
