Newcastle United have been linked with the veteran Spanish keeper this week.

The Northern Echo reported this week that Newcastle United could sign goalkeeper Pepe Reina for only £4 million.
The Spanish stopper, who previously worked with Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez at Liverpool and Napoli, has one year to go on his contract with the Italian side.

The 34-year-old surely has a couple of seasons left in him and recruiting such a big name, at that price, would be a fine bit of business – if Benitez can get it done.
And Magpies supporters certainly seem excited by the prospect of the Spain international plying his trade at St James’s Park next term.
The former Liverpool boss already has a multitude of goalkeeping options – including Tim Krul, Karl Darlow, Mats Selz and Rob Elliot – so offloading a few will be needed to facilitate Reina’s potential arrival.

Reina is certainly a class above Newcastle’s other options, having won seven major trophies for club and country throughout a career which includes a World Cup winners medal.
