Newcastle United fans react positively to Paul Dummett’s new deal.
Paul Dummett’s performances for Newcastle this season have earned him a new contract extension.
Dummett yesterday agreed a new deal which will run until 2022.
The Welshman has stepped up at left-back in recent weeks where Newcastle badly needed him after being hit by injuries earlier in the campaign.
Dummett, 26, has been at Newcastle his whole career, save for two brief loan spells when he was a youngster.
The full back has not always been held in the highest regard by supporters but there is a real feeling that he has earned his new deal.
Since returning from injury he has been a regular in the Newcastle team and at the weekend he was outstanding as the club shut out Manchester United to earn a 1-0 win.
That performance alone should have been enough to convince the Newcastle hierarchy to hand Dummett a new deal.
Whether he will be Newcastle’s first choice left-back between now and 2022 is up to the club and who else they bring in, but he has proven he deserves to be kept around and compete for his place.
