Newcastle have been linked with a move for former player Mehdi Abeid.
Potential comeback? Mehdi Abeid at Newcastle United
Newcastle United fans have given a split response over the potential of re-signing midfielder Mehdi Abeid.
Respected French newspaper L’Equipe reports Newcastle are keen on bringing Abedi back to the club from Dijon, while the player is also open to a return.

Abeid signed for Newcastle originally back in 2011 as a teenager, and while he made it into the first team, he never really solidified a role as a regular starter over the course of a whole season.
He was sold by former manager Steve McClaren in 2015 to Greek side Panathaniakos, before switching to Dijon.

The 24-year-old has benefitted from playing regularly over the past two seasons and would return to Newcastle a better player.
At the Toon he would have to compete with Jack Colback, Isaac Hayden and Mo Diame for midfield spots, and understandably the possibility of his return has not been met with an overwhelming response.
Many supporters are keen for Abeid to re-sign, arguing it was a mistake to let him go in the first place.
Others believe it is a backwards step for both club and player, with Abeid not needed by Rafa Benitez.
