According to Fotomac, the Magpies are interested in signing Skrtel from Fenerbahce in the summer transfer window.
Rafael Benitez worked with the Slovakia international central defender at Liverpool and the Newcastle manager reportedly wants reunion with the 32-year-old at St. James’ Park.
Skrtel played for Liverpool from 2008 until 2016. During his time at Anfield, the centre-back established himself as one of the best in the Premier League.
Newcastle will feature in the Premier League next season after gaining automatic promotion from the Championship at the end of 2016-17 season.
The Magpies will be aiming to push for a top-10 finish in the league next season, and Skrtel could play a major role.
The Slovakia international centre-back is hugely experienced, and his knowledge of the Premier League would be invaluable for the Magpies.
