Newcastle United are said to be keen on the Sunderland forward, with Rafael Benitez’s now monitoring his progress.

Newcastle United fans are keen to Josh Maja signed from Sunderland, after they were linked with the in-form striker this weekend.

The Daily Mail suggested that Newcastle are interested in the £5 million forward, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

And Magpies fans are keen to see Maja brought in at St. James’ Park, largely because they feel it would disrupt Sunderland’s promotion push.

Whether Newcastle would have the money to buy Maja remains to be seen, as Rafael Benitez appears to have a limited budget.

However, Sunderland are not in a position of power over negotiations with Maja, due to his contractual situation.

The forward still hasn’t agreed new terms, and although Jack Ross doesn’t want to lose him, he has admitted that Sunderland may be forced to sell.

Maja currently leads Sunderland’s scoring charts and if Newcastle were to take him, it would unquestionably be a bitter pill for the Stadium of Light crowd to swallow.
