Newcastle sold the pair to Watford and Liverpool respectively this summer.

Newcastle United may have sold Daryl Janmaat and Georginio Wijnaldum to Watford and Liverpool, respectively, this summer, but some Magpies fans were keen to check on their progress while on international duty.
The pair – for whom the Championship side reportedly received over £30 million – started the Netherlands’ 1-1 draw against Sweden on Tuesday, with Danny Blind’s side perhaps unlucky to have not claimed a morale-boosting win in their opening World Cup qualifier.

Janmaat was heavily involved in his side’s goal, assisting Wesley Sneijder with a low shot that was parried by Sweden’s goalkeeper, although Wijnaldum endured a quiet evening and was withdrawn after 66 minutes.

A handful of Newcastle supporters were not convinced by either player’s displays, however – as evidenced by the following tweets.
In fairness, not all Newcastle fans were critical of Janmaat, who for the most part delivered a bright attacking display, like this guy for example…
Although most were reluctant to accept being told otherwise…
Former Newcastle striker Luuk de Jong and defender Patrick van Aanholt, now of Sunderland, were unused subs for the Netherlands in Solna.
