Newcastle United picked up their most impressive three points of the season so far yesterday, beating promotion rivals Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at St James’ Park.
The result was a fair reflection of a well drilled performance from Rafa Benitez’s side – who are now fourth in the Championship.
Newcastle’s goals on the day came from Jonjo Shelvey and Jamaal Lascelles, the defender scoring the opener.
Lascelles started the season in not the best of form. The defender, who had been handed the captaincy this summer, struggled to settle in to the new role and campaign.
However, against Brighton he looked much more like the player Newcastle know and hope he can be going forward.
Not only did he score but he was solid at the back against one of the most dangerous attacks in the second-tier of English football.
Performances like this will now doubt go even further in helping Lascelles raise his stock among the Newcastle supporters – who are already very fond of their captain.
