Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Ian Wright has suggested that the 2017-18 campaign will be very important in the career of Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle.

Gayle failed to make a huge impact in the Premier League when he was at Crystal Palace, but the 27-year-old striker was in brilliant form for Newcastle in the Championship last season.

The former Peterborough United striker scored 23 goals and provided two assists in 26 Championship starts for the Magpies during the 2016-17 campaign.

“What I believe is he is at a crux period in his career now,” said Wright about Gayle on BBC 606 Facebook live on Sunday afternoon (4:59pm, August 13, 2017).

“If he doesn’t score goals now he is back in the Premier League after Palace let him go, then people will see him as a Championship striker.

“Then the Premier League teams are not really interested in taking him because they don’t think he is going to score at this level. The Championship teams who are trying to get out of that league will buy him.”
