Newcastle United beat Brentford 2-1 in their last outing.
Newcastle United fans have praised Daryl Murphy, after the experienced striker scored their winner against Brentford at the weekend.
Murphy has found chances hard to come by this season, but he was brought on to replace Dwight Gayle in the Magpies’ most recent match.
Gayle had fired Newcastle into the lead at Griffin Park, but Brentford came back to equalise through Lasse Vibe.
However, just as it looked as if the points would be shared, Murphy ensured that Newcastle claimed the three points.
The 33-year-old forward got his head on an Ayoze Perez cross to hand the victory to Rafael Benitez’s side.
And Newcastle fans have credited Murphy for taking his chance, after the former Ipswich Town man also scored in against Birmingham City in the FA Cup.
Murphy’s winner against Brenford ensured that Newcastle moved ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion and back up to the top of the Championship table.
Murphy could now be set for a run of starts for Newcastle, if Gayle is ruled out with injury.
