Murphy was brought to Newcastle from Ipswich Town during the summer transfer window, but he has been kept in reserve so far.
The experienced forward was, however, given a chance during Newcastle’s latest match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, which they won 2-0.
Newcastle scored their goals through Matt Ritchie and Yoan Gouffran, but plenty of supporters in attendance at St. James’ Park were quick to praise Murphy’s display.
The Republic of Ireland international held the ball up well, and brought others into play throughout the contest.
