Roberts’ display caught the eye, as the winger caused some problems for the Irish side to defend.
And Newcastle supporters feel that Roberts has done his chances of breaking into the first-team no harm.
Roberts has struggled for game time at Newcastle recently, but Benitez has previously expressed a desire to see more youngsters break through at St. James’ Park.
It has been years since Newcastle produced a youngster who went on to become a genuine star in their first-team.
Whether Roberts has the potential to be that talismanic figure remains to be seen, but he has shown promise at development squad level.
